Mathematical Methods of Image and Pattern Analysis

    • Extensive lecture notes that you read on your own.
    • Short videos that explain each subtopic from a top-down viewpoint. This is not a replacement for reading the lecture notes.
    • Exercise sheets you work on your own and compare with our solution videos
    • Coming soon: Mulitple Choice tests
    • A feedback forum in Moodle where students can give feedback and ask questions.
    • No meeting in HeiConf, etc.
    • No in-person lecture (at least at the beginning of the semester)

Supplementary Practical

We offer a supplementary practical for this course. This means: You do more and get two more credit points for the course. In our case, this “more” will consist of three programming tasks you have to solve during the months May, June and July. More information on this will follow with the first programming task later.

Fine Print: Please check the module manual of your field of studies whether you can use this supplementary practical for your goal of studies. We can not guarantee this as there are way too many different regulations for the different fields of study. Even if you can not use the supplementary practical, we think these programming exercises are very valuable.

Programming Exercises

For the programming exercises we recommend Mathematica or Python.

Mathematica

You can use Mathematica free of charge in your browser using the Wolfram Programming Lab. By creating a (free) Wolfram account you can also save your notebooks.

According to Wolfram's COVID-19 Page Wolfram offers free licenses until August 15th for online education. We have not tried this, but you might want to give it a go.

Python

We recommend installing the Anaconda Distribution.

Teaching Material

We plan to put the videos, the lecture notes and the exercise sheets on Moodle.
